How the Donut Batch Calculator works

The calculator divides your target donut count by your base recipe's yield to get a single scale factor. That one number is then multiplied against every ingredient amount you enter — the key ingredient on the Scale tab, plus any additional ingredients you add on the Full Ingredient List tab. Because every ingredient is multiplied by the exact same factor, the ratios that define the recipe's taste and texture stay unchanged no matter how large or small the batch gets.

Inputs and what they mean

Base Recipe Yield is how many donuts your recipe makes as written — check the recipe's headnote or count a test batch if it isn't stated. Target Donut Count is how many you want to end up with. The Key Ingredient fields (name, amount, unit) track your recipe's primary ingredient, usually flour by weight, and drive the amount shown in the main result. The Full Ingredient List tab lets you add every other ingredient — sugar, yeast, milk, eggs, salt — each with its own name, amount, and unit, and every row scales automatically as you adjust the base yield or target count.

Limits and edge cases

Scaling works cleanly for dough ingredients — flour, sugar, liquid, yeast, salt, eggs — because they're all proportional to batch size. Frying oil is the one exception: it depends on your pot's size and how deep the oil needs to be, not on the scale factor, so plan oil separately and fry in more batches rather than assuming a bigger pot of oil. Very large scale-ups can also outgrow a single mixing bowl or stand mixer bowl capacity, so check your equipment before committing to a big multiplier. Half recipes and other fractional scale factors (like ×0.5) work exactly the same as whole-number ones — the math doesn't care whether the factor is above or below 1.0.
