Instead, oil is mixed directly into the gasoline so it lubricates the engine as it burns. This calculator turns a target premix ratio into the exact amount of oil to add for any fuel volume.

How the gas-oil ratio calculator works

The math is a single division: convert your fuel amount to ounces or milliliters, then divide by the ratio's N value (the “40” in “40:1”). The result is the volume of 2-stroke oil to add. The calculator handles the unit conversions for you — 128 ounces per gallon, and roughly 3,785.41 milliliters per gallon or 1,000 milliliters per liter — so you can mix in whichever units are printed on your oil bottle or fuel can.

Inputs and what they mean

Fuel amount is however much gasoline you're mixing, in gallons or liters. Premix ratio is the N:1 ratio your engine manufacturer specifies — pick a common preset (16:1 through 100:1) or type a custom value if your equipment calls for something in between. The output unit toggle switches the oil amount between fluid ounces and milliliters, matching whatever markings are on your oil bottle.

Limits and edge cases

This calculator only does the ratio math — it does not know your specific engine's spec. Always confirm the correct ratio in your owner's manual or on the equipment's fuel cap before mixing; using too little oil risks engine seizure from inadequate lubrication, while too much oil causes excess smoke, spark plug fouling, and carbon buildup. Pre-mixed fuel also degrades over time, so mix only what you'll use within the oil and fuel manufacturers' recommended storage window.
