The rate table (20–60 BTU/sq-ft) reflects the typical range cited by residential HVAC sizing guides: colder climates and leakier, poorly-insulated homes sit at the high end, while mild climates and tight, well-insulated homes sit at the low end.

Inputs and what they mean

Square footage is the total conditioned floor area you're heating — it drives the result almost linearly, so an accurate measurement matters most. Climate zone approximates how cold your coldest winter days typically get.
